Cleaner crushed to death in Singapore
A Bangladeshi Town Council cleaner working in Singapore passed away in an incident that occurred on January 11, 2016 at a bin centre near Blk 620, Bedok Reservoir Road.
Chinese daily Wanbao reported that the worker got crushed by a rubbish compressor at about 9.16am, leaving behind a wife and three children.
The news was also shared by Pritam Singh, MP for Aljunied GRC, Workers’ Party on his Facebook page.
He wrote: “Both the Town Council and the conservancy contractor are assisting the authorities in their investigations into this incident, and it is therefore inappropriate for me to comment further at this time.
“I understand statements have been given to the Police and officers from the Ministry of Manpower.”
In light of this incident, the Town Council management has directed all its conservancy contractors to carry out toolbox talks with staff, and to follow up with additional safety briefings as a matter of urgency.
