From 2016, all full-time Facebook employees will get four months of paid baby leave “no matter their gender or where in the world they live”, announced Ms Lori Matloff Goler, head of human resources and recruiting efforts at the social media giant.

“We want to be there for our people at all stages of life. An important part of this is offering paid parental or ‘baby’ leave,” said Ms Goler in a Facebook post on Thursday (Nov 26). As Singapore’s existing maternity leave is at four months, the new policy will benefit fathers in the Republic.

The extended policy will start from Jan 1, 2016 and apply to “all new dads and same-sex partners at Facebook … whether they are the primary caregiver or not”.

“All new parents in all of our offices worldwide, including those who had or adopted a baby in 2015 and were Facebook employees at the time, will be eligible,” added Ms Goler. “The leave can be taken at any point up to a year after the baby is born.”

This announcement comes on the heels of CEO Mark Zuckerberg saying he would take two months’ paternity leave after his wife Priscilla Chan gives birth.
