In 2014, MSF helped more than 350 people with disabilities find jobs: Tan Chuan-Jin

The Ministry of Social and Family Development (MSF) has helped more than 350 people with disabilities find jobs in 2014, according to Minister Tan Chuan-Jin.

Of the 350 or so, one in three have intellectual disabilities, he added.

The placements were part of services offered by SG Enable, an organisation set up by MSF in 2013 to serve as a focal point to enable and serve persons with disabilities, Mr Tan said on Monday (Aug 17) in a written answer to a Parliamentary question filed by Punggol East MP Lee Li Lian.

One of the organisation’s key functions is to enhance employment and job training options for people with disabilities.

Explaining the job placement process, Mr Tan highlighted the wider network of community touchpoints, such as Family Service Centres and Social Service Offices, which can refer people with disabilities, including those with intellectual disabilities, to SG Enable for job referrals and job matching.

Mr Tan said: “The referred persons will undergo work preparation and job-related training and receive job placement and support services offered by SG Enable and its Voluntary Welfare Organisation (VWO) partners, including the Movement for the Intellectually Disabled of Singapore.”
